Below is a gallery of evocative research and pastel renderings for a paper project of Phillip Glass’ Akhnaten. The Sun clearly takes a huge precedent when considering light in Akhnaten for the religious and spiritual implications discussed in the show. Running with this, I wanted to consider both our Sun as we have historically - and will for our sliver of existence - experience it, but also look to the life of a star and consider the color journey that it takes as analogous to Akhnaten’s own journey. I also was interested in reinterpreting the sun’s shape and thinking about the way the qualities of sun could be fractured to create interesting horizon lines.
