Tin-Pot Dictator

The Tin-Pot Dictator, standing in the geometric cave, has shaped the world in their own image with twisted shapes and failed forms all around them.

This model is constructed as in reference to Maholy-Nagy’s Light Space Modulator and his instructions on creating one’s own such Light Modulator. There are elements of the structure which shape the beam, causing a variety of effects such as pinpricks of light piecing through the tattered drop and highlights where creases and gaps exist in the paper and foil structure. These work in tandem to reveal both the environment of the modulator as well as altering the light itself. Concurrently, there is detail of the figurine which like the foil, is malleable.
