Artist Statement

The SpongeBob Musical demands a design that connects the bigness and boldness of a children’s cartoon with the musical mode of a modern, pop rock musical.

The lighting in this case, plays with bold patterns and saturate colors in this version where the world is constructed of recycled materials like cardboard and plastics - items which could conceivably have floated to the bottom of the sea.

Lighting here allows the flexible, scenic space to shift between the bevy of locations in Bikini Bottom, all with cartoonish flair.
