Artist Statement

Doe Paoro is a singer-songwriter with influences as eclectic as they come; soul, R&B, electronica, and folk sounds are at the forefront of her musical genre blending all put through a filter of of Lhamo, a style of Tibetan folk singing that serves as Doe's only formal musical training. She oozes alternative, neo-paganism from her merch bearing slogans like "Don't Doubt my Witchcraft" to her dark moody bars such as:

We born whole. We become half. Yeah, it's drumming in her soul as she pluck out the lemon grass Each night I'd wail to the river ready walk on water to find his ghost.

In designing for her, I wanted to allow the darkness to take hold and shape the space. I went for darker, dimmer backdrops with minimal fill light wherever possible and tried to let the shadows play across Doe and the band's faces; creating the mood of a candle-lit seance.
